kio: ergonomic parking kiosk

in collaboration with jenna borges, kara breeden, & rafael castro

City parking is stressful.  After you manage to find a parking spot, it can be challenging to decipher a parking kiosk in a new city.  New payment methods, apps, nonlinear workflows, and long lists of instructions can make this interaction quite frustrating.  Kio is a parking kiosk for a simpler world.  The main control is dial-based, reminiscent of the iPod.  Its form stands out on the street when you need to see it but avoids the visual clunky-ness of the current kiosks.

This ergonomics project covered many aspects of the product design process, including observational user research, anthropometrics, idea generation, CAD, and user testing.  It was the first time I created a mock-up of such a stature, which brought exciting challenges.
